PAFP Resident Community Health Impact Grants

Since 2022, this PAFP partnership with the PA Department of Health has funded more than 40 RIG programs across the state. 

The application portal for RIG Applications for projects to be completed in the 2026-2027 fiscal year is now open! Submission deadline is October 8, 2026.

The RIG grant program supports and strengthens the community health scholarly work that is foundational to family medicine residency training.

Program Objectives

What do we hope to accomplish through the RIG program?

• Increased access to primary care services for rural and underserved populations.
• Increased community-integration of FM resident training and scholarly projects.
• Collaboration with a community organization.
• Projects address identified community health needs.

About the RIG Program

PAFP’s RIG grants provide up to $25,000 to support resident-led scholarly projects employing creative approaches to deliver improved public and community health to communities that are traditionally marginalized in health care. Grants help fund important health care and health-promotion activities that are not payable within the traditional health care payment structure, are built upon partnerships with community organizations, and put residents in the leadership role, supported by dedicated faculty mentors and PAFP staff. 

2026-2027 RIG Application Dates & Deadlines

• 9/8/2026 — Call for Submissions Opens
• 10/8/2026 — Submission Portal Closes
• 10/8/2026 — Judging Panel Begins Submission Review
• 10/26/2026 — Award announcements issued via email
  • Grants will be awarded as available funding will allow;
  • Projects will be selected based on strength of proposal.
  • PAFP will offer formal RIG Agreements for signature following award announcements.

2026-2027 RIG Application Requirements

• 11/2026 — Return signed RIG Agreement with IRS Form W-9
• Participate in meetings with PAFP as requested:
  • RIG Team grant management training, November 2026
  • RIG Summit Prep, January 2027
  • Wrap-up Review, April-May 2027
• 4/10/2027 — Present poster at PAFP RIG Summit/Research Day at The Landing Hotel in Pittsburgh
• 5/31/2027 — Submit final report, project photos, budget reconciliation and required documentation for actual expenses
