RIG Application Dates & Deadlines

• 9/8/2026 — Call for Submissions Opens
• 10/8/2026 — Submission Portal Closes
• 10/8/2026 — Judging Panel Begins Submission Review
• 10/26/2026 — Award announcements issued via email
  • Grants will be awarded as available funding will allow;
  • Projects will be selected based on strength of proposal.
  • PAFP will offer formal RIG Agreements for signature following award announcements.

RIG Application Requirements

• 11/2026 — Return signed RIG Agreement with IRS Form W-9
• Participate in meetings with PAFP as requested:
  • RIG Team grant management training, November 2026
  • RIG Summit Prep, January 2027
  • Wrap-up Review, April-May 2027
• 4/10/2027 — Present poster at PAFP RIG Summit/Research Day at The Landing Hotel in Pittsburgh
• 5/31/2027 — Submit final report, project photos, budget reconciliation and required documentation for actual expenses

Plan Your RIG Application

• What should you hope to accomplish through the RIG program? 
  • Increase access to primary care services for rural and underserved populations;
  • Increase community-integration of FM resident training and scholarly projects
  • Address a community health need; and
  • Share your project at the RIG Summit and PAFP Research Day event (April 10, 2027).

• Prepare your project abstract.
  You’ll submit the abstract in sections on the web form, each with a maximum character limit of 500.

Plan Your RIG Budget

This is the only acceptable budget format; budgets submitted in any other format will not be accepted.

• Develop a detailed and carefully prepared budget for your proposed project using the template and sort expenses into the tabs as indicated:
  • Budget Summary
  • Program Expenses
  • Personnel: clinical personnel, preceptors or faculty – only personnel essential to the project can be included
  • Research Day: travel mileage, tolls, registration, one night hotel stay
  • Other
• Your budget should reflect a thoughtful and realistic assessment of the expenses necessary to carry out your proposed project. While actual expenses may vary as the project is implemented, the budget should be based on anticipated costs that have been researched and estimated as accurately as possible. Please do not use placeholder amounts or general estimates simply to complete the application.
• The submitted budget will be reviewed with PAFP staff and will serve as the basis for the initial disbursement of grant funds, ongoing financial review, final financial reconciliation, and final grant disbursement. Please take the time necessary to ensure that your budget accurately reflects your project plan and anticipated expenses.

Looking for Project Inspiration?

• Review RIG project abstracts from the 2026 RIG Summit and past RIG project highlights
• Projects will be considered that build capacity and access to primary care, examples include:
  • Diagnostic and screening equipment, training, integration of new services into resident education and primary care setting (POCUS, etc)
  • Mobile health services, immunization clinics, other health screenings & referral services;
  • Lifestyle medicine health impact: food insecurity, plant-based menus, stress management, community wellness events
  • Collaborate with community partners outside of residency clinic to provide health education and health screenings in the community
  • Public health-promoting activities for special populations: LGBTQ, refugee populations, persons with disabilities, persons with food or housing insecurity.
