The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physician is always at work for you. From working to secure expanded residency slots for Pennsylvania’s physicians-in-training to supporting and lobbying for legislation friendly to family physicians and patient throughout the Commonwealth, the PAFP is taking your concerns straight to lawmakers and stakeholders – and getting results.
Direct primary care (DPC)
The PAFP is championing legislation that will improve access to direct primary care, or DPC, by recognizing these arrangements and defining them as outside the scope of state insurance regulations. Nurse practitioner independence

Buprenorphine prescribing
The PAFP opposes legislation that would penalize family physicians who prescribe buprenorphine as a treatment for opioid use disorder by forcing them to pay to be licensed by the state, potentially harming patients, and is meeting with Senate leaders to voice family physicians’ concerns. Senate Bill 1054
Patient-centered care
As managed care organizations (MCOs) must adopt more value-based pay models, patient-centered medical home (PCMH) high-volume practices earned nearly $10 milion in 2017, thanks in part to PAFP inspired legislation creating the PCMH Advisory Council. Economic output
According to recent research, family medicine contributes $9.3 billion in direct and indirect economic output, 57,276 direct and indirect jobs, and $4.6 billion in direct and indirect wages and benefits in Pennsylvania, thanks in part to your membership with the PAFP and its advocacy efforts to bolster family medicine in the Keystone State.
