PRESCRIPTION MONITORING LEGISLATION INTRODUCED
Legislation that will establish a Pharmaceutical Accountability Monitoring System in Pennsylvania has been introduced by Rep. Gene DiGirolamo, chairman of the House Human Services Committee. House Bill 1651 will track scheduled drugs in order to avert “doctor shopping” and illegal diversion. PAFP staff is working with DiGirolamo on a potential amendment that will preserve the PAFP’s positions on the legislation.
LEARN MORE ABOUT FAIR CONTRACTING
The Fair Health Care Provider Contracting Act provides fair contracting standards and disclosures that will help physicians continue to make informed contractual decisions and help them provide higher quality, more cost-effective care to their patients. Defining “medically necessary” care is one component of the legislation. Creating this definition provides an objective standard that both the physician and insurer must follow when making medical treatment and payment decisions respectively. It allows the physician to treat a patient in the most effective way, knowing that the care will be paid for. For more information, click here.
