POLL: U.S. OBESITY RATE CONTINUES TO RISE (May 2?8, 2015)
The U.S. obesity rate climbed to 27.7 percent in 2014, up from 27.1 percent the year before, according to a new Gallup poll. Pennsylvania ranks 33 out of 50 states; the Harrisburg-Carlisle metro area is the ?second-most obese metro area in the United States (out of the 100 largest), behind only Baton Rouge, Louisiana. |

SCOTUS HEALTH LAW DECISION: WHAT'S AT STAKE (May 27, 2015)
A U.S. Supreme Court decision next month will decide if Affordable Care Act enrollees in states that didn't set up their own heath care exchanges will be allowed to keep federal funds. PENNSYLVANIA MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD IN SENIOR HEALTH (May 20, 2015)
Pennsylvania ranks 25 out of all 50 states in a new report that has determined the healthiest states for seniors. According to U.S. News & World Report, the United Health Foundation's study concludes seniors aren't getting enough exercise and need to cut back on behaviors that lead to chronic illnesses.

NEW ASTHMA CONTROL CME WEBCASTS AVAILABLE (May 19, 2015)
The PAFP and the Pa. Dept. of Health have collaborated on a new webcast series on asthma control. The webcasts, which deal with determining asthma severity, determining asthma control, using inhaled steroids, and using team-based care are worth a total of two AAFP Prescribed credits, or 0.5 credit each.

COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY PHYSICIANS KEEP PATIENT COSTS LOWER (May 15, 2015)
A new study in Annals of Family Medicine has found that family physicians who provide comprehensive care keep their patients' costs lower. According to Medscape, patients of family physicians who perform a broad range of services experienced costs up to 13 percent lower than some other patients. |

STUDY: MANY PARENTS THINK OVERWEIGHT KIDS "JUST RIGHT" (May 13, 2015)
Ninety-five percent of parents with overweight children believe their kids look "just right," according to a new study. The Washington Post reports it's part of a disturbing trend - the chances of a parent appropriately perceiving their child has declined by 30 percent as waistlines have expanded across society. |

PENNSYLVANIANS HIGHLY SATISFIED WITH FAMILY PHYSICIANS (May 7, 2015)
Polling conducted this spring by Dr. G. Terry Madonna of Terry Madonna Opinion Research shows that 90 percent of Pennsylvanians have a family physician More than 96 percent of those patients are satisfied with their family physician, with a huge 85 percent "very satisfied." MCARE SETTLEMENT REFUND PROCESS TAKING SHAPE (May 6, 2015)
The Pennsylvania Insurance Department is working to implement an automatic assessment refund to physicians who paid their own Mcare assessment or a claim process for parties that paid the assessment for another health care provider.
